eBay No PayPal Policy

What the hell... So I did actually sell my laptop. They buyer has had it now for almost a week now and loves it. And I still haven't been paid. PayPal has started a new policy where on a whim, without any prior notification, some items (not all) are flagged and your funds are held. This is for your protection as well as for the buyers. Ugh. Great.

Once upon a time (some 7-8 years ago) I switched to PayPal because it was a lot quicker to get money from auctions compared to using Money Orders, therefore making it a lot quicker to ship items to customers. It was good for me, it was good for the buyers, it was a good deal.

Now, with PayPal's new policy it takes me 2 weeks average to get paid. 2-3 times longer than it used to take with Money Orders. My incentive is gone, and so is PayPal. Never mind that my reputation for delivering great quality items speaks for itself (100% great feedback.) I simply cannot deal with PayPal's "sometimes we just decide to hold your money, and you won't know if we will until after we already have" policy. Yes, I hear it's great for protecting me from fraud and chargebacks, well, so do Money Orders. And it's lightning fast compared to the new system.

I know, you can refund the buyer a penny and the system will release the hold (strong rumor, but not tested), but I'm not about to go messing with a beast that can also on a whim, lock my account for "suspicious activity" and then hold my money for up to 180 days. No, I'm going to hurt them where it counts. No more making fees and interest off of my transactions.

So, I paid my car payment with my house payment money. I can't pay my house payment now, but hopefully my tax refund will be in my bank account in 5-7 days. Funny, the government will get my money to me faster than PayPal will.

I know exactly what you are talking about and what I have done in the past is when I get a notification that funds are being held, normally because of an eCheck payment...I send the buyer a email via eBay and let them know what is going on and as soon as I get payment credited to my Paypal account then I email them back and tell them that the eCheck cleared and I will ship the item within 24 hours...most of the time the buyer understands...I personally don't wanna get ripped off...I've only had to do this twice since I started selling on eBay...most people have paid me either via Paypal or Money Order and I have only had a problem with a buyer once cause they didn't wanna pay for the item until I shipped it out to I think it was Argentina or some crazy place like that for some loose Spawn figures I was selling at the time...this person must have thought I had "STUPID" tattooed across my forhead or something like...I went through the whole ordeal of reporting them and it got me no where fast and a whole lotta frustrated :?

This is credit cards too now. You could wait the default 21 days to get your money. Unless the buyer decides to leave you positive feedback then you wait one day after they do so to have access to your money. (My buyer got the laptop and seems to be pleased, but I've heard nothing in the way of feedback) If you have a tracking number you only have to wait 3 days after they receive the item. I did, but even after 3 days they are still holding it. I need to call them now.

However, if the buyer open a dispute at any time, then you wait months for your money and the buyer still has your item the whole time. The new rules are very buyer-protective, which is a nice change for buyers, but it's way too troublesome for sellers.

I only use paypal when there would be no other alternative and thankfully I haven't run into such problems... yet.
