Wassa I workin' on?

I made two goals for myself this year (before death-fest 2009 began.)

Professional goals:
I'm really (no really) learning Cocoa programming. I'm blocking out time twice a week while at work to read books, watch video lessons, and tinker with code. Lock myself in my office and turn off email. It's the only way I'm ever going to get somewhere. I've been buying screencasts from Pragmatic Programmers and a host of PDFs and books. Looks like I'm going to Apple's WWDC again this year too, so I want to be better prepared and more familar with the language and APIs.

Personal Goals:
On a personal level I've decided that I'm no longer an oil painter. I just don't have the time, and the risk of having toxic metals suspended in linseed oil around my kids isn't appealing enough to keep it up. I still like to draw, I still like to illustrate. But the painting is done.

With that said, I'm also trying to block out time to finish learning 3D modeling. I have both LightWave and Modo available to me from work and I'm acceptably mediocre at both. I do it casually for work, but it's time to take it seriously. If my job ever tanks... there are plenty of opportunities for a good 3D animator. I'll be adding some stuff to my gallery soon I hope. I'm a perfectionist, so this could take some time. But it will be worth it.

Andy Brown has some great modo tutorials at the Luxology site. I've bought several lessons already. Modo makes 3D modeling like working with clay. It's wonderful.

On a photography note - I found several praying mantis egg sacs on a bush in my back yard. Going to adopt them and photograph their hatching with my macro. (Then release them properly) I've been told they are very small when born. Can't wait to see.

=)
